My Dream Cabana Challenge
In collaboration with the American Quilter’s Society, discover this unique wool appliqué challenge where you can bring your dream cabana to life! All levels are welcome to this challenge, and the limit is only your imagination! Upon entering this contest, get the chance to win prizes and feature your project at all AQS Quiltweek Shows in 2025. Join in on the fun by purchasing your wool kit directly from AQS website. This kit includes everything you need to get started including Merino wool fabric for the background and cabana structure, plus perfectly color matched wool/acrylic thread, Ellana™ for the appliqué.
The rest is up to how you want to decorate it and bring it to life! WonderFil is offering a promotional thread bundle that you can personally curate for this Cabana Challenge. You can “Build Your Own Box” with the threads listed below, plus some bonus items too!

- 1 uniquely printed Rinse Away Design Sheet with a Cabana shape so you can pre-draw motifs for your project!
The possibilities are endless. Your imagination is the only limit! To bring your vision to life, use any technique and embellishment that inspires you: embroidery, appliqué, beading, painting, or anything else your heart desires. You are welcome to mix and match the background and cabana shapes from the different kit colorways as well as adding your own wool shapes. All wool shapes must be secured by appliqué stitching. Embellishments can include non-wool materials such as fabrics, beads, sequins, buttons, ribbons, paint, etc.
Contest Details:
Submissions:
- Entries must be submitted online between December 1 – 19, 2024
- The submission should include high-quality photos of the quilt. You will be expected to include a brief description of your design and the inspiration behind your dream cabana.
Jurying:
- Acceptance and shipping notice will be sent by January 9, 2025.
Shipping:
- Accepted entries must be shipped to AQS by January 23, 2025.
- Ensure your quilt is securely packaged for shipping.
Availability:
- Your quilts will need to be available from January 9, 2025, through October 24, 2025, and will travel to all 2025 AQS QuiltWeek Shows.
- Return shipping instructions will be available upon acceptance. Quilts will be returned by October 24, 2025.
Additional Considerations:
- Make sure your contact information is included in your submission and on the back of the quilt.
- Label your quilt with your name, title of the piece, and contact details.
- Ensure that all materials used are securely attached to withstand handling and display at all 2025 AQS QuiltWeek shows.
